A propane regulator takes the high pressure coming from a propane tank and turns it into a usable pressure for gas appliances such as fire pits and grills. Most all propane tanks are high pressure and so they require a regulator. The most efficient gas fire pit burners, such as the Crossfire Brass burner system from Warming Trends, operate best at low pressure (11" of water column to be exact). That is less than 1 PSI.
